The largest online booksellers in the United States have cancelled sales of a forthcoming Spanish-language title about the spiritual legacy of Puritan pastors, following the arrest of author Tony Segar on child molestation charges.

“Pastores para la gloria de Dios” (Pastors for the Glory of God) by Segar, the former director of Logos Bible Software’s Spanish department, was slated for publication on Monday. According to promotional material, the book invites “every pastor, leader, and committed believer to rediscover a vision of Christian ministry” that was exemplified by Reformed church leaders in the 1600s.

But Amazon has stopped taking pre-orders. Books-a-Million and Barnes & Noble have removed webpages dedicated to the title. Walmart says that “Pastores para la gloria de Dios” is “out of stock” and suggests shoppers consider books on bi-vocational ministry or pastoral vulnerability instead.

The 300-page paperback is still for sale on Christianbooks.com for $18.99 plus $3.99 shipping, but it is unclear if the site will be able to fulfill orders Monday. The publisher’s website no longer lists “Pastores para la gloria de Dios” for sale.

Editorial CLIE, the world’s largest producer of Spanish-language Christian books, has not made a public statement and did not respond to emails from Roys Report (RR). But Segar’s name appears to have been quietly erased from the site since his arrest in Bellingham, Washington, about 90 miles north of Seattle.

Segar spent three days in June in the Whatcom County jail.

On June 22, Segar, 68, was charged with molesting a 12-year-old girl.

Senior pastor called sheriff

According to the arrest affidavit obtained by RR, the investigation began with a call from Spring Creek Bible Church’s senior pastor, Andrew Larsen. He reported that Segar, who worked at the church part-time for at least seven years, had been accused of child molestation.

Segar touched a 12-year-old girl on the bottom and she did not like it, according to the arrest affidavit.

Segar regularly looked after the child, taking her to get ice cream, run errands or watch Formula 1 races on TV, according to the sheriff’s deputy’s investigation. In May, the girl came home from Segar’s house and told her parents that the way he slapped her backside made her uncomfortable. The parents told the sheriff’s deputy they thought that was strange, so they asked their daughter if it had happened before.

She said yes — and sometimes Segar touched her breasts and her crotch, the arrest affidavit says.

The girl gave further details during a child forensic interview, according to the sheriff’s deputy. She said Segar sometimes put his hand in her lap while they were in his car and, at least once, started rubbing a part of her body she called the “front.”

The girl did not know how many times Segar touched her inappropriately, according to the arrest affidavit, but thought it had been going on for more than one year.

A week later, the sheriff’s deputy said, Segar confessed.

According to the arrest affidavit, the 68-year-old minister was asked about “physical contact” with the 12-year-old, and he said they had a “close relationship” that “grew into lust.”

“Starting when (she) was 10 or 11 years old, his affection for her changed as she began puberty,” the deputy wrote. “He started … intentionally touching her breasts.”

Segar also confessed to slapping the girl’s bottom and touching her “too far up (her) leg,” according to the deputy. He recalled this happening four different times and acknowledged he was “motivated by a desire to gratify lust,” the arrest affidavit said.

RR could not reach Segar for comment.

Arrest not widely reported

The 68-year-old minister’s arrest, first reported by the Bellingham Herald, did not receive widespread attention at the time.

He was immediately removed from leadership at Spring Creek Bible Church, a nondenominational congregation in Bellingham with Methodist roots.

The church, which lists “discipline” on its website as one of its distinctives, did not say anything publicly. Larsen, the lead pastor, appeared to speak about the charges indirectly in the next Sunday service, mentioning a “tragic situation” during a pastoral prayer.

“Lord, you have graciously seen fit to expose sin,” Larsen said. “You know how we have grieved together as a body over this last month. You know the hurt and the pain that sin has caused in so many lives.”

Logos, the digital Bible study platform, did not issue a statement at the time. A spokeswoman told RR that Segar left Logos in September 2025.

“We are not in a position to comment regarding the circumstances leading to his arrest,” the senior manager of communications wrote in an email. “The allegations are serious and troubling. Our hearts go out to the victim and her family, and we pray for her healing.”

Logos still offers Segar’s Spanish-language devotionals online. “God is Good,” a three-day Bible study that he wrote, has been completed more than 100,000 times on the YouVersion smartphone app. Another, which promises to help Christians “distinguish between worldly love and biblical love,” has been finished 250,000 times.

Wrote about Christian holiness

Segar’s first book, “Teología del corazón” (Theology of the Heart), is still in print and widely available.

In a 2024 interview with the Spanish-language version of The Gospel Coalition, Segar described the book as an explanation of how God does not just save people from sin but transforms human hearts.

Segar told the podcast “Entendiendo Los Tiempos” (Understanding the Times), that he felt this need, personally.

“For me, one of the most challenging aspects of the Christian life is guarding the heart,” he said.

In Segar’s second book, he argued that pastoral authority should spring from “visible holiness.” According to the promotional material, Segar planned to criticize ministries that focused on “visible success and institutional efficiency,” rather than the supreme goal of glorifying God.

But he was arrested and charged before the book could come out.

Segar has pleaded not guilty. Court records show he is scheduled to go on trial Dec. 14 and faces a maximum possible sentence of life in prison.

  1. 1) why are you leaving your child alone with any adult to hang out 2) story about the 1600s? Isn’t that when they burned innocent woman at the stake because someone accused (men) the woman of many things.
